14 days risky fasting of Shri Bharat Gandhi to save hunger deaths

While Mr Gandhi was in struggling phase an incident took place at Kheri-Manihar Village under Mawana Tehsil of Merrut district in UP in which 5 members of a family made an attempt to commit suicide due to economic crises the family was facing 4 of them died while a small child of 8 year was survived in hospital. That incident was published on the front page of the News Papers and Mr Gandhi got agitated over that news. He could not take his breakfast when he went through that News in the Newspaper on 1st July, 1998 He even did not take lunch. He refused to take dinner also. Next day also he did not take his meal. Third day also passed and he did not intake anything on fourth day hunger was giving pain to him but he did not find anyway to prevent such incident whereas he was taking this as inevitable outcome of the ill systems as the governance and economy of the world was moving in such direction. Mr Gandhi was thinking about the fate of survived 8 year old baby, as to what would be the world of baby, as to what would be the worldly relation of her, who was there to look after the children? Her father? He is dead. Her mother? She is also dead. Her brother? He is also dead. Her sister? She is also dead. Her neighbor? Had they been sympathetic, the family could not have eaten poison. The government? The Government will put a condition- Food for work. Whether absolute father i.e God? He has awarded the punishment to child for her misdeed?
Fifth day also passed and Mr Gandhi did not eat anything. Fifth day the younger brother who was pursuing his M.B.B.S degree in Meerut got much scared and he went to a person who was well known to Mr Gandhi as he was under the impression that the person concerned might persuade Mr Gandhi to take food. His brother was under the apprehension that Mr Gandhi was not taking meal for some fault of his. The matured friend of Mr Gandhi after knowing about his mental state without taking Mr Gandhi into confidence wrote a letter to the District Magistrate that Mr Gandhi was on indefinite fast for five days demanding that the survived baby of the family of Mawana of Meerut which committed suicide should be given some regular amount for her economic security. The District Magistrate scolded in this term, “such Mr Gandhi dies every day, notice is given before going on hunger strike”. He submitted an application to the District Magistrate and asked Mr Gandhi to go on fast before the office of the District Magistrate instead of doing the same in the closed room. He advanced the plea that due to hunger strike of Mr Gandhi the survived baby will lead her life with honour as the government may provide some economic assistance. Mr Gandhi could not deny that proposal because he was well-wisher of the baby and he was not accepting that approach heartily because that fast was not like to give any good effect on all such families coming on the verge of death.
On the sixth day the personal matter of Mr Gandhi was transformed to a public step. Some acquainted friends got him seated before the office of the District Magistrate. Days were passing on and only on the 10th day of the district administration came into action when a team of the doctors of the district hospital wrote as per test of blood, urine and physical state of Mr Gandhi, - “he could die any moment.” After this report the Police came into action and after arresting Mr Gandhi at 7.00 P.M. from the collectorate wanted to admit him in the hospital. But the Medical college hospital refused to admit him after watching report and observing his integrity and resolution and advised the police to prepare the case of attempt to commit suicide against him and to forcibly administer food. The Police forcibly tried to administer juice at midnight with a view to break his fast, physically tortured him and even threatened. But the police bowed down before his integrity. Therefore, the police dropped him back to the same spot where he was sit on dharna. The district administration started initiating action on 11th day. With co-operation from some of the local leaders a cheque of Rs. 50 thousand from the Prime Minister Fund was handed over to Mr Gandhi on the 14th day.
During his experience of fast, Mr Gandhi came to know that there are some people in the society, who are judicious and they can support any mission to change unjustified economy and system to governance. Mr Gandhi demanded Rs. 1750 for the whole life for the survived baby because during that period that amount was half of the average domestic purchasing power. Mr Gandhi demanded that amount because with that amount the baby whose father was dead could live with honour in economic security cover. If the father of the nation. She should be given the right of consuming at least half of the amount of the average purchasing power per month. That is why Mr Gandhi sought that amount as life long pension for her so that she could live with honour. But that demand was not conceded and one time grant of Rs.50 thousand was given to her instead of giving that regular cash right. Mr Gandhi took that grant as alm. Therefore that cheque of Rs. 50 thousand made the people present at the spot somewhat jealous but Mr Gandhi took it just a means to allure. Even then Mr Gandhi had to break his fast because the people who became near and dear to him during the fast intensified their pressure on him. They suggested that it was necessary for Mr Gandhi to survive to carry out economic right based on birth and they were all with him in that fight. Mr Gandhi had to submit to that plea and he broke his fast.
The incidents that took place during his fast inspired Mr Gandhi to realize this fact that the right to the property in succession must not be confined to a few rather it should be given to all and that may be only measure which may provide the opportunity to the people to survive not at the cost of others. The rent of the property of gross domestic legacy earned by the ancestors may become the means to lead life with resolution for the people like him.
During his fast Mr Gandhi came to know that now it would be his duty to work for giving the share of gross domestic legacy of nation to every citizen and awake the conscience of these having surplus amount to return the same.
